Kristen Currie

Morning Meteorologist

Kristen Currie joins the First Warning Weather team as the morning meteorologist.

Born and raised in Southern California, Kristen didn’t experience much in the way of weather growing up (outside of the normal 80s & sunshine). It wasn’t until she moved to Colorado in 2009 did she get a taste of thunderstorms, snow and the changing of seasons… and that’s where the love of the science started.

While there, Kristen earned her B.A. in ‘Environmental Science’ with a specialization in ‘Climate & Energy’ and a minor in ‘Atmospheric and Oceanic Science’ from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She also holds a certificate in ‘Broadcast Meteorology’ from Mississippi State University. She spent her junior & senior year of college interning with the ABC & FOX affiliates in Denver, getting her feet wet in forecasting the wild weather of the Rocky Mountain state.

Kristen started her on-air career in 2013 at the ABC affiliate (KAMC) in Lubbock, Texas where she forecasted everything from dust storms & tornadoes… to ice & severe wind events. After a year in a half in West Texas, she crossed the stateline and joined the CBS & FOX (KRQE) affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kristen spent 4.5 years as the morning meteorologist forecasting for the entire state of NM, southern Colorado and northeastern Arizona.

Kristen is excited to be back in Texas exploring all Austin has to offer. She’s a big foodie and has already started adventuring through ATX’s food & wine scene. She would love to hear your recommendations on where to grab the next bite to eat/drink!
